This qualification, aimed at those who carry out manual handling at work, provides essential information about manual handling hazards and their control.

To give you maximum flexibility it can be delivered as a half-day programme for learners who only wish to gain the CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling. Those who need to learn about practical manual handling techniques should stay on for a further half-day training session and assessment to gain the full CIEH Level 2 Award in Manual Handling – Principles and Practice

 Who needs this qualification?

More nurses and carers suffer handling injuries each year than any other workers. Yet the moving of people is fundamental to the work of a care home. This Level 2 qualification is aimed at those who carry out manual handling at work, introducing candidates to the risks of manual handling and the controls available.

The course is directed at those handling residents in Residential and nursing care homes but is also appropriate for all employees who handle, boxes, mail and packages including both industrial and office workers.

Topics covered:

Ø      The process of manual handling
Ø      Manual handling injuries and the activities which cause them
Ø      Manual handling assessment and control options (including the use of a range of equipment )
Ø      Responsibilities imposed by the manual handling operations regulations
 

Outcomes

 
   On completing this qualification candidates will be able to:
v     Identify and understand the risks associated with manual handling
v     Learn the value of risk assessment and how to apply it
v     Make recommendations to manage risks
v     Apply the principles of safer handling to a range of everyday manual handling tasks
