In a multi-cultural environment it is essential that each individual understands how culture affects behaviours and that the team understands the implications of individuals behaviour on the dynamics of a team.
 

SfC Cultural Awareness

 

Who needs this qualification?

Suitable for anyone who is working in the health and social care sector. This workshop aims to introduce the idea of culture and explain its relationship to nursing care.

The workshop will consist of formal teaching but will also be interactive and experiential giving the students the opportunity to participate in activities that will enable them to apply the theories to their practice.

 

 Subjects covered: 

Ø       Provide a definition of culture
Ø       Allow candidates to recognise themselves as cultural individuals
Ø       Enable candidates to show an awareness of other cultures
Ø       Describe the relationship between culture and social care
Ø       Identify barriers to intercultural communication and team working
Ø       Highlight how breakdown in communication can lead to conflict
Ø       Highlight how cultural awareness can be used to avoid and resolve conflict

 

Learning outcomes:

 At the end of this one day work shop the participants will have gained :

v     A better understanding of the term culture
v     An awareness of the relationship between culture and nursing care
v     An insight into themselves as cultural beings
v     A greater understanding of other cultures
v     Better knowledge of the meaning of intercultural team-working
