The Department of Health has drawn up a code of practice acknowledging that everyone involved in care provision needs training to tackle the risk of Health Care Acquired Infection (HCAI).

This CIEH qualification is designed as an introduction to hygiene, ensuring that vulnerable people are not exposed to unnecessary risks.
 

CIEH Level 2 Award in Hygiene in Health and Social Care

 

Who needs this qualification?

 

Employees who have already received basic health and safety training and would benefit from additional focused training in hygiene hazards and controls. This would include carers and others who provide cleaning and support services in a broad range of contexts, such as:

Hospitals - Care Homes - Patients’/clients’ own homes

Topics covered:

Ø      Hygiene hazards

Ø      Personal hygiene

Ø      Cleaning

 

Outcomes:

On completing this qualification candidates will be able to:
 
v      Terminology used in good hygiene practice
v      Relationship of hazard and risk in prioritising action
v      Relevant legislation relating to hygiene practice
v      Concepts of hygiene hazards and infection control
v      Importance of good personal hygiene
v      Need for high standards of cleanliness to help prevent infection

 

Standards:

SfC Induction Standard 3.5 , Health & Social Care NOS/NVQ Units 22, 32, 213, 218, 230, 243, 213 & 246

Duration: Half-day program
Assessment: Multiple choice examination
Ofqual Accredited: No
Prerequisite: None

Progression: Successful candidates will gain exemption from attending part of the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in Health and Social Care.  

Refreshment of this qualification is recommended at least every 3 years.
