Pre NVQ 2
The standards were introduced in the spring of 2001 to provide a benchmark for the induction of all social care staff. Its primary purpose is to ensure that all staff working within the care sector have a thorough introduction to this specialised area of work.
Who needs this qualification?
All care staff recruited since 1st April 2002 must undergo SfC specified Induction Training within 6 weeks from the start of their employment.
Practitioners seeking to refresh their knowledge can also take one or more of any of the modules. A SfC-recognised certificate will be awarded for each module completed.

· Moving and handling
The course has been divided to be covered over 5 days as indicated below.
A certificate will be awarded for completing the two parts of the course
The topics mentioned are the topics that will be covered on the different days. It is mandatory that you attend all classes as well as the practical placement before your certificate is issued.
Duration: 5 days of theoretical training combined with a period of practical work at a care home (usually 6 days)
Assessment: Examination and Practical Observation at the care home
